A to Z Kids

A to Z Kids is a bilingual children's book series. There will be a total of 26 books in this series, one for each letter of the alphabet. The books are family oriented and center on a day in the life of a child and their favorite hobby/place/object. The stories use simple speech making it easy to read and understand. An excellent book choice for preschool-age kids to 2nd grade.

Author Raquel created this series with parents and teachers in mind. She implements a color-coding system for common and simple words to help readers make a faster connection with English between Spanish. A to Z Kids Characters
  • On Day 1 :

    Read the book in your primary/native language first.

  • On Day 2 :

    Read the book in the second/new language today.

  • On Day 3 :

    Read the book in both languages at a moderate pace on this day, as best as you can.

  • Tip #1 :

    Read the book aloud each day. Sound out the words as best you can when reading in the second language.

  • Tip #2 :

    Match the English to Spanish color coded words and notice the similarities. You may recognize quite a few cognates.

  • Tip #3 :

Will speaking 2 languages at once confuse a child?

No, it will not. Children are in the early stages of cognitive development. Children soak up languages best from birth to 3 years old. Any time to learn a new language is always applauded. But the optimal time is by age 8 in children for better grasping and retaining the information of learning a new language.

What school age is best for introducing a second/foreign language?

Experts believe preschool ages are best. The first 5 years of a child's development their brain's ability to learn a second language is unmatched.

If I'm bilingual which language do I teach or speak to my child first?

It's best to have children learn in the strongest language you are the most fluent in first. Once their brain has mastered one language it will be primed to learn a 2nd much easier. However, kids can learn to read 2 languages at the same time!

Can I raise a bilingual child even if I don't speak a second language?

Of course! It won't be easy, there will be challenges but it is achievable. There is always room for all of us to learn something new at any age. Why not try to learn a second language also? Baby steps can lead to giant leaps.
